Despite challenges of conducting a barbecue outdoors on a blustery afternoon, Central Care Cancer Center raised $767 from hosting its fourth annual “Pulled Pork & Chicken Feed,” on Tuesday on the lawn of its Great Bend cancer clinic. All proceeds from the barbecue benefit Relay for Life of Barton County.
“Relay For Life continues to be an important event by helping the American Cancer Society fund new research, and patient programs with education and cancer prevention information,” said Leann Danner, RN, OCN, medical oncology clinic manager at Central Care in Great Bend. “The support from Barton County residents has always been great and we appreciate everyone for participating in any way possible.”
Requesting a $5 donation per plate, Central Care employees served approximately 150 people, who chose a meal of barbecue pork or chicken. The food was cooked by Central Care staff and family members.
“This barbecue has become a Central Care Relay Team tradition as an annual fundraiser,” explained Michelle Robinson, CPhT, oral medication center manager for the clinic. “We have so much fun serving our patients and the community and appreciate all the support that is given to Relay for Life of Barton County through our team. We hope to continue this fundraiser for many years!”
Central Care Cancer Center, formerly known as Heartland Cancer Center, is Great Bend’s only comprehensive cancer treatment center. Although the name is new on the building, Central Care Cancer Center has been an integral part of the cancer center in Great Bend since its beginning and will continue providing quality oncologic care in the Great Bend area.
