Dr. Claudia Perez-Tamayo Honored by Wichita Business Journal

(Wichita, KS) – Dr. Claudia Perez-Tamayo, Radiation Oncologist at Central Care Cancer Center has been honored by the Wichita Business Journal’s ‘Excellence in Health Care’ series for Cancer Care. The honor highlights Dr. Perez-Tamayo’s long-standing commitment to treating oncology patients in Kansas.

Dr. Perez-Tamayo was a Lifetime Achievement Award winner and a Health Care Hero award recipient in 2018 from the Wichita Business Journal.

“I am appreciative to the Wichita Business Journal for this honor in cancer care. There’s a misconception that you have to go to a large cancer center in a large city to receive the latest in technology and cancer care. Just because you may live in a rural community, doesn’t mean that you don’t have access to cancer experts, and the many possibilities available in treating and beating cancer. You have a choice! At Central Care Cancer Center, it’s a team approach. The patient is involved from the very beginning to develop a customized cancer treatment plan.” said Dr. Perez-Tamayo.

Dr. Perez-Tamayo came to Kansas 32 years ago to practice and serve as cancer center medical director in Salina, while also serving patients in Halstead and Hastings, Nebraska, during much of that time. She came to Kansas from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor where she participated in leading research on radiation oncology’s effect on various forms of cancer.  Today, Dr. Perez-Tamayo treats patients at Central Care Cancer Center clinics in Newton, Emporia, Great Bend, Kansas City, Kansas and Bolivar, Missouri.  She also provides consultations to radiation oncology patients at Central Care’s Wichita clinic.

Dr. Perez-Tamayo is board certified by the American Board of Radiology and the American Board of Internal Medicine sub-specialty of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She has expertise in both brain and body stereotactic procedures, as well as brachytherapy, both low dose rate and high dose rate.

She was awarded prestigious fellowships to both the American College of Radiology and the American College of Radiation Oncology for her contributions and service through education, research and service activities in the practice of radiation oncology. Her academic appointments include the University of Michigan and the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Dr. Perez-Tamayo is regularly heard discussing in length, specific types of cancer, on radio stations in Wichita, Emporia, Great Bend, Garden City, Liberal and Springfield, Missouri.  She also has been featured monthly on KWCH TV-12 providing education on various types of cancer.

Dr. Perez-Tamayo will be recognized at An ‘Excellence in Health Care’ dinner to celebrate all the honorees in the near future.
